Hello and Welcome to The Barn Door! My Name is
Betty Evenson and I am the owner and creator of The Barn Door horse
lover’s catalog.
Throughout my childhood. I begged and pleaded for an equine friend,
but to no avail. Finally, when I was 23, I purchased my first horse-a big
beautiful, buckskin appendix gelding named Dirty Dan. Dan and I had 18
wonderful years together before he died of natural causes on October 2,
2007. He was 24.5 years old.
I wrote about Dan’s passing in my holiday catalog. I
wish to thank the 100’s of you who sent cards, special gifts, emails and
called to offer your condolences. I always knew that my customers were
special but this only confirmed what I have known for so long. We all
have experienced (and may have lost) that wonderful bond that you can
only know once you have shared your life with a special equine friend.
On a happier note … I would like to take this opportunity to
introduce you to Tango. As I knew that Dan was aging, in April 2007, I
had purchased a 3 year old Morgan stallion who I named Tango and gelded
immediately. Tango and I were just getting serious about our training
when Dan left us. We have worked hard throughout the winter and are
teaching each other so much. I have never started a young horse before so
this has been quite a learning experience for me. Tango is smart,
willing, very athletic, absolutely beautiful (just an added bonus) and
full of personality. He is steady, brave and predictable - and so
different from Dan’s thoroughbred personality. Tango just turned four and
has just passed 16 hands! He is very kind, handsome young gelding and I
look forward to many, many years of riding with new companion. There will
never be another Dan … but it is because of what Dan taught me that I can
appreciate and enjoy Tango so much.
